Ofqual launched a 12-week consultation on regulating on-screen exams in GCSEs, AS and A levels in December 2025, closing on 5 March 2026. The proposals set out a controlled introduction of digital assessment, allowing each of the four exam boards to seek accreditation for up to two new on-screen specifications, with the most popular subjects, those with more than 100,000 entries, excluded at this stage. Students would not be permitted to use personal devices. On-screen and paper versions would be separate qualifications with different questions. The full Ofqual consultation remains available o
