Schools get AI attendance targets. Colleges are still watching from the sidelines.

The DfE is rolling out AI-benchmarked attendance improvement targets for every school in England. Further education colleges face at least as complex an attendance challenge and are not included.

Every school in England is receiving an AI-generated personalised attendance improvement target as part of the Schools White Paper commitments. The targets are produced by an AI system that analyses each school's historical data and local context, then sets a stretching but realistic improvement goal. The ambition is to improve overall school attendance by 1.3 percentage points, equivalent to 20 million additional school days per year by 2028 to 2029. National College reported on the rollout as institutions received their initial targets this year. Further education colleges are not included.
