The government has confirmed that oracy will be embedded in the revised national curriculum from September 2028. EdTech companies are already positioning tools around spoken communication skills. Whether technology can genuinely support oracy development, or whether it works against it, is a question teachers are starting to take seriously.

The government's curriculum and assessment review, published in its final form last month, confirmed that oracy will be embedded across the revised national curriculum when it comes into force in September 2028. The Every Child Achieving and Thriving white paper described preparing children for life and careers in a changing world through embedding oracy, financial, digital and media literacy in the curriculum as a central objective. For schools, the practical question that follows is what oracy teaching actually looks like in the classroom, and what role technology can legitimately play in su
