Major independent trial finds struggling Year 2 readers make two months’ additional progress

Struggling young readers made an average of two additional months’ progress in reading after using Lexia Core5 Reading in a major independent Education Endowment Foundation effectiveness trial. The effect was found with as little as 12 weeks' use, at three to four 30-minute sessions each week. The findings come as reading enjoyment among younger children continues to fall. The National Literacy Trust's 2026 Annual Literacy Survey, based on responses from 125,375 children and young people aged five to 18 across the UK, found that 61.6% of five- to eight-year-olds said they enjoyed reading, down
