Oxford Brookes University is running one of the largest AI literacy trials in UK primary and secondary education. The study uses Amira Learning across Years 3, 5, 7 and 8 in Northern Ireland. Results will feed directly into national literacy policy.

A research study involving 8,426 pupils across 114 schools in Northern Ireland is testing whether AI tools can make a measurable difference to children's reading outcomes. The Reading with AI Research Project, led by Oxford Brookes University under the government's RAISE programme and using Amira Learning, an AI-powered reading support tool aligned with the science of reading, is one of the most substantial trials of its kind currently running in the UK.
