We have normalised something we barely understand I think one of the strangest things about the smartphone debate is how quickly society accepted these devices into children’s lives without really questioning the consequences. More than half of children now own a smartphone by the age of eight, yet most adults still do not fully understand what children are exposed to online every day, and the impacts this might be having. Parents know this instinctively, even if they cannot always articulate it. When we built SafetyMode, one of the things that genuinely shocked us was how frequently harmful c
